GMU to Celebrate 104 Years of Maritime Education in Poland

On 17 June 2024, Gdynia Maritime University will celebrate the 104th anniversary of maritime education in Poland.

The June Gdynia Maritime University Celebration Day marks events that took place more than 100 years ago, when General Józef Leśniewski signed an order on 17th June 1920 to establish a Maritime School in Tczew. It is with these events that the history of Gdynia Maritime University, the successor of the Maritime School in Tczew, began.

University Celebration Day will be held in accordance with the following programme of events:

8:00 am - Raising of the flag
(In front of the main GMU building, ul. Morska 83)

8:20 am - Laying of flowers by HM The Rector GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, under the memorial tablet for the crews of Polish merchant ships who defended the Polish coast during World War II in connection with the 80th anniversary of the landing of allied forces in Normandy - the biggest landing operation during the war.

9:00 am - Holy for the intentions of University staff, students, doctoral candidates, and alumni
