New Graduates and a New Edition of Offshore PGDip

On Saturday 9 March, the 2nd edition of the Postgraduate Diploma in "Risk Management in the Offshore Extraction and Offshore Extraction Industries" came to a close at the GMU Faculty of Navigation. The 2nd edition, run in cooperation with PGE Baltica, took place during 210 contact hours over two semesters. This time round, 40 students completed the course.

The graduation ceremony was opened by Dr Agnieszka Blokus-Dziula, who thanked graduates for their involvement during the last year. Dr Sambor Guze, the Deputy Rector for Education, commented that the large number of graduates is validation that the launch of the postgraduate programme was the right decision. The Deputy Rector also thanked those gathered for their involvement and for choosing Gdynia Maritime University.

The culmination of the 2nd edition of the study programme is the publication of a monograph entitled: "Risk Management in the Offshore Industries" by GMU Publishing. The sections of the group's work, edited by the head of the course, refer to the topics discussed as part of the course and were prepared by lecturers and students, as well as experts with extensive experience, including in the offshore industry. In thanking all those who contributed to and reviewed the publication for their support of the initiative, Dr Agnieszka Blokus-Dziula encouraged all to read the work and get involved in future editions. Also speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Graduates were Wiktor Wickland, a participant in the second edition, and Artur Końdal, who, during the course, shared his knowledge and experience and presented the challenges and risks in connection with the maritime safety of the country.

A nice touch during the ceremony was the thanking of Course Head Dr Agnieszka Blokus-Dziula by course graduates. The presentation of diplomas was commemorated in a group photo.

Inauguration of the Third Edition of the Course

On the same day as the 2nd edition participants were graduating, the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of the Postgraduate Diploma in "Risk Management in the Offshore Extraction and Offshore Extraction Industries" also took place.

The Deputy Rector for Education, Dr Sambor Guze, and the Head of the PGDip, Dr Agnieszka Blokus-Dziula, welcomed the new students who then took part in opening lectures led by two well-known, respected individuals from the industry. The lecturers who benefit from a wealth of professional experience gained around the world, as well as teaching experience, are members of the course's teaching staff.

The first presentation, entitled "Safety First" was given by Sławomir Bałdyga – an experienced professional in the offshore industry. In his lecture, presenting personal protection equipment essential for work in the offshore sector, he stressed the importance of on-the-job training and the principle of "Your safety first."

 "Heroes, Saints and Successful People - Excerpts From Risk Philosophy in Numbers and Pictures", was given by Łukasz Sikorski – Director of the European market at OWC, an international offshore wind energy consultancy company.

Before the lectures, the close of the official part of the inauguration was marked with a photograph of the participants of the newest edition of the course.
