On 3 and 4 June 2024, a meeting of members of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (KRUP) and the Conference of Rectors of Polish Higher Education Institutions of Technology (KRPUT) was held in Kortowo. Discussions during the meeting focused on the development of higher education in Poland. The event was attended by HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Adam Weintrit.

The meeting was held at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, which celebrated its 25th anniversary. The first part of the proceedings was dedicated to the role of the Polish Accreditation Commission and the challenges it faces, including comprehensive assessment and accreditation projects. On the second day, discussions focused on the future of the education system and touched on the issue of disparity in education subsidies, particularly concerning master’s degree programmes. In connection with the current legislative work of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, the Rectors also discussed the new evaluation process.

The conference members present deliberated together and in separate groups. Two of the challenges currently faced by Polish universities were recognised during the discussion: the new model of education using new tools - SI, as well as the topic of contracted courses and how to attract the best candidates, as well as encouraging the best graduates to stay and work at universities. 

Also on the second day of the meeting, KRUP addressed the resolutions of the University Financial Commission, which will be presented to the Minister and the Chair of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools (KRASP). Additionally, the Rectors discussed the need for changes in Conference regulations. The meeting also aimed to prepare KRUP for its next meeting, during which the Conference’s new leaders will be elected.
