On 2 September 2024, HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, presented nominations for positions of leadership at the University for the 2024-2028 term of office.

The ceremony took place in the University’s main T. Meissner auditorium and began with a short speech by the Rector in which he thanked the deputy rectors, the deans, the chancellor, the bursar and the directors and heads of departments and sections, and administration for their work during the past term of office 2020-2024.

HM The Rector also pointed to the priorities in the University’s development during the next term of office, namely beginning the processes of building a new student residence on the University campus, and a new sail training ship to replace Dar Młodzieży. He also referred to the successes of the past term of office, including the construction and opening of the GMU Offshore Centre and the GMU Sports and Recreation Centre.

The Rector also mentioned the organisational changes that will be in place from the start of the new term, including the opening of the Faculty of Computer Science, and the appointment of three Deputy Rectors – The Deputy Rector for Science, the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs and Education, and the Deputy Rector for Internationalisation, Cooperation and Development.

The presentation of nominations to leadership posts was preceded by the presentation of tokens of thanks by the Rector to outgoing members of staff for their leadership work during the 2020-2024 term of office, namely: 

• Dr Aleksandra Wilczyńska – Dean of the Faculty of Management and Quality Science
• Professor Krzysztof Górecki – Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering
• Dr Joanna Newerli-Guz – Deputy Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Management and Quality Science
• Dr Karol Korcz – Deputy Dean for Maritime Affairs and Promotion at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering
• Piotr Jędrzejowicz – Head of the Department of Information Systems of the Faculty of Management and Quality Science
