Tour The Modernist Architecture of the Gdynia Maritime University Campus
On Saturday 16 November at 11:00, the Gdynia Heritage Association (Stowarzyszenie Zabytkowa Gdynia) will give a guided tour of the Gdynia Maritime University campus entitled “The Modernist Architecture of the Gdynia Maritime University Campus – One of the Most Extensive Renovations in Poland”.
The tour will be led by Anna Nowakowska, the supervisor of conservation works carried out in the University’s buildings. The conservator of monuments will share her experiences of renovation works conducted on the elevations of the University buildings and in the University’s main T. Meissner Auditorium, as well as leading a walking tour around the main University Campus on Morska Street during which she will discuss the modernist architecture of GMU’s historical buildings.
The Gdynia Maritime University campus has an exceptional architectural and spatial arrangement. This is attested to by the originality of its stylistic features, which combine modernist and classical trends, and an innovative approach to the use of building materials. The GMU campus is one of the biggest architectural complexes in Poland where the elevation of the buildings is faced entirely with cement bricks.
All those interested are invited to join the guided tour on Saturday 16 November at 11:00 (the tour will be led in Polish). The tour will start at the entrance to the main University building at ul. Morska 81-87.
