University Takes Part in Marking 100th Anniversary of the Death of Joseph Conrad
On Tuesday 6 August 2024, a ceremony was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of outstanding Polish author, publicist, and sailor Joseph Conrad - the captain of the sailing ship Otago.
Taking part in the event were local government authorities, the Director of the Gdynia City Library, representatives of maritime associations, the Polish Nautical Society, the Piłsudski Society, and local residents.
Gdynia Maritime University was represented by the Deputy Rector for Education, Dr Sambor Guze, who together with the University’s Guard of Honour, laid flowers at the writer’s monument.
A short summary of the biography and achievements of the author of many well-known works, such as Heart of Darkness and Lord Jim, was given by Professor/Captain Daniel Duda - an Honorary Doctor of Gdynia Maritime University.
The ceremony was followed by a photo of those in attendance.
The event was organised by Gdynia City Hall, Gdynia City Library, and the Polish Nautical Society.
