Electrical Engineering Day Held at GMU

On 10 April 2025, Gdynia Maritime University held Electrical Engineers Day, organised by Faculty authorities, staff, students, and aimed at both current and future students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. More than 300 people took part in the event, including pupils from six high schools, representatives of energy, electronics, IT, and automation companies interested in engaging in cooperation with students and future GMU graduates.

Those attending were greeted by the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Dr Piotr Jankowski, who in his speech said:

The event was organised for the first time in 2001. Years later, we have reinstated Electrical Engineer's Day, albeit it in a different format. The aim of today's meeting is, first and foremost, to provide students from all the University's Faculties with the opportunity for direct contact with representatives of as many as 36 companies from the Pomeranian region and beyond, who have accepted our invitation to take part in this event.

The event was opened by HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, who spoke to the exceptional nature of Electrical Engineer's Day:

"It's a combination of play with learning." As he pointed out: "it's not only about Electrical Engineering but also automation, electronics, communications, energy, and more, because graduates of the Faculty take up many professions".

The Rector made a particular point of addressing the students who were present at the event, wishing them success in gaining new contacts and establishing potential, interesting professional collaborations — whether through internships or future paid employment.

In addition to the opportunity to speak to company representatives attending the event, participants were also able to take part in general and technological knowledge competitions organised for students and school pupils, and test their abilities in spatial games and an escape room set up at the Faculty.

During Electrical Engineering Day, students and pupils could also talk to members of the University's student scientific circles and find out about the effects of their work. The undergraduate theses of the Faculty's best students were also presented.

For sports enthusiasts, there was the opportunity to try out the climbing wall at the GMU Sports and Recreation Centre during a climbing competition.

The winners of all competitions were awarded with attractive prizes.
