Faculty of Management and Quality Science Develops its Research Competencies as part of PROGRESS Project

From 26 to 27 May 2025, the second cycle of a training course on scientific research methodology and the development of cooperation with research institutions in Poland and abroad in management and quality science took place at the GMU Faculty of Management and Science. The event is an important part of the development strategy for the University’s research potential, with particular emphasis on enhancing the competencies of academic staff and doctoral students.

The course aimed to improve efficiency in the preparation and conduction of research projects, and deepen collaboration with the socio-economic environment concerning the commercialisation of research results. Taking part in the event were seven members of GMU staff representing four departments within the Faculty of Management and Quality Science, and the GMU Doctoral School.

The training focused on the practical aspects of conducting scientific research. It also gave participants an opportunity to further their knowledge of planning research, the formation of research problems and hypotheses, as well as the construction of research tools. In particular, emphasis was put on the methods and techniques used in the analysis of quantity and quality data. Classes were undertaken in the form of workshops, which enabled participants practical involvement and a chance to work on their own research concepts.

The training was led by an outstanding expert in strategic management and scientific research methodology – Professor Wojciech Czakon of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Professor Czakon is the author of many scientific publications, a respected lecturer, an honorary doctor of Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, and a renowned practitioner in the design and realisation of empirical research.

The training was conducted as part of the project entitled: PROGRESS – Scientific Research Development of Gdynia Maritime University in Management and Quality Science,” co-funded by the Ministry of Science as part of the Regional Excellence Initiative. The total value of funding of the project is PLN 1,551,000 (Contract no. RID/SP/0023/2024/01).

The project is coordinated by GMU Associate Professor Dr Joanna Kizielewicz, Head of the Department of Management and Economics. The organisation of the training was overseen by Dr Katarzyna Skrzeszewska, also of the Department of Management and Economics.

The organisers trust that knowledge and contacts gained during the training will contribute to the further development of scientific activity at GMU and raise the University’s profile in national and international research circles in the fields of management and quality.
