GMU Delegation Attends Celebrations for 105 Anniversary of Maritime Office in Gdynia
The Maritime Office in Gdynia celebrated the 105th anniversary of its foundation with a ceremonial gallery held on 13 June 2025. Taking part in the event was Captain Adam Weintrit. The event provided an opportunity to recall the Maritime Office in Gdynia’s history and the current work carried out by the institution, which is of exceptional importance for the development of the Polish maritime industry, the safety of navigation, and the infrastructure of the Baltic coast.
The event was attended by more than 350 people, including representatives of local governments in coastal regions, the world of science, institution and industry associations, companies connected with the maritime industry, as well as current and past Maritime Office staff. Also in attendance from GMU was Professor Krzysztof Czaplewski, Director of the Maritime Institute, and Captain Dariusz Jellonnek, Director of the Maritime Operations Department. The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Dr Arkadiusz Marchewka, was an honorary guest.
Celebrations for the 105th anniversary of the Maritime Office in Gdynia also provided an occasion to honour those who, through their knowledge and commitment, contribute daily to the safety and development of the Polish coast.
The Maritime Office in Gdynia is the successor to the Merchant Navy Trade Office in Wejherowo, the first regional body of civil maritime administration in the modern history of Poland. The foundation of the Office was not just an organisational act but was also highly symbolic of the construction of a free Poland with access to the sea and its own independent port in Gdynia, which in time became the pride of the Republic.
