GMU Marks 43rd Anniversary of Raising the Flag on Dar Młodzieży

43 years ago, on 4 July 1982, a ceremony took place on board the Dar Młodzieży with the Polish flag hoisted upon its mast for the first time. Helena Jurkiewicz, wife of the long-serving captain of Dar Pomorza and chair of the Dar Młodzieży building committee, Kazimierz Jurkiewicz, became the ship’s godmother.

On that day, Dar Młodzieży, the Maritime School’s third great training vessel, on board students – future merchant navy officers – complete periods of seamanship training.

Currently, Dar Młodzieży is at sea with students of the Faculties of Marine Engineering and Electrical Engineering on board for a two-month period of training. During this time, the GMU students will take part in this year’s Tall Ships Races, a tradition which Dar Młodzieży and its student cadets have maintained since 1982.

The race and the current position of the university’s tall ship can be followed using on the event organiser’s webpage: https://sailtraininginternational.org/yb-tracking-2025/
