On Friday 7 March 2025, HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit, invited all female staff at GMU to attend an event specially prepared in anticipation of International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8.
The staff gathered at the University’s Faltom restaurant, where they were welcomed by the Deputy Rector for Full-time Studies and Promotion in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Marcin Frycz, acting as the host of the event. The first to speak was HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, who thanked those present for their daily efforts on behalf of the University and wished them all a Happy International Women’s Day. At the end of his speech, the Rector announced the main surprise of the meeting - a concert by the duet Dr Andrzej Lachowicz, the Director of the GMU Sports and Recreation Centre, and Dr Damian Bisewski, the Deputy Head of the Department of Maritime Electronics in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The pair performed well-known Polish ballads on guitar and vocals. The impromptu act, specially put together for the occasion, was well-received by all ladies attending the event, with the performance followed by a standing ovation!
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, all female staff were also sent home early at 14:00.
The event came to a close with sweet refreshments and the chance to take a souvenir photo in a photo booth. All women staff members were also given roses.
