GMU Nominations in “Eureka! DGP - Discover Polish inventions” Competition
Inventors Professor Krzysztof Górecki and Dr Paweł Górecko have been nominated to the Eureka! DGP - Discover Polish inventions Competition for their invention entitled: “A method and a circuit for measuring the turn-on and turn-off energy of power bipolar transistors with an isolated gate”.
The invention is applicable in the quality control of semiconductor power devices for the electronics and electrical engineering industries. Currently known solutions do not allow for the determination of the switching on and off energy of a transistor without the influence of parasitic capacitances of the measurement probes. Additionally, the method of measuring the mentioned IGBT transistor parameters according to the invention can be implemented with higher accuracy than with known methods and requires less expensive measurement equipment. The solution is very promising, especially in the context of quality control applications in modern electronic systems, such as electric drives, the automotive industry, the energy sector, industrial automation, and measurement techniques. On 21 February 2025, an interview with the creators of the invention was published in the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper in which they describe it in more detail. The invention is included in GMU’s technical solutions portfolio, which is under the care of the GMU Technology Transfer Office. The innovation broker promoting the solution is Marlena Żur-Lewandowska.
The Eureka! competition is organised by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper to promote Polish science and inventions originating at universities, research institutes, and within the scientific units of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which have been registered for protection at the Polish Patent Office. The results of the competition will be announced in June. We will keep our fingers crossed for all GMU solutions.
