GMU Takes Part in Ceremonial Assembly for Maritime Day

On 28 June 2025, a ceremonial assembly was held in Gdynia on the occasion of Maritime Day. Taking part in the ceremony were Gdynia Maritime University representatives, led by Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science.

The ceremony began with a Holy Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Peter the Fisherman in Gdynia. After the Mass, participants gathered near the Maritime Poland in Skwer Kościuszki in the centre of Gdynia for the main part of the ceremony. Following a rendition of the Polish national anthem, there were speeches and the laying of flowers and wreaths at the foot of the monument. The event closed with a parade.

Attending the ceremony, part of celebrations for Maritime Day, a tradition which as a reminder of Poland’s connection with the sea began in 1932, were members of parliament and local government, as well as representatives of the Port of Gdynia, the Polish Navy, the PGZ Navy Ship Yard, the uniformed services and local residents.
