Professor Janusz Zarębski Awarded Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta

During a ceremony at the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw, the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, awarded national distinctions for service to the country and society.

For his outstanding service to the maritime economy and achievements in science, education, and organisation, Professor Janusz Zarębski was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

Janusz Zarębski has been an employee of Gdynia Maritime University since 1978. From 1997 until 2005, he held the post of head of the Marine Radioelectronics Department, and since 2005, he has been head of the Marine Electronics Department. For the duration of the 2002-2005 and 2008-2012 terms of office, he served as a member of the Gdynia Maritime Academy Senate, from 2012 to 2016 as Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and from 2016 to 2020 as Rector of Gdynia Maritime University.

A further achievement was the organisation of the Independence Voyage in 2019/2020, during which the training sailing ship, Dar Mlodzieży, called at 23 ports in 18 countries around the world in celebration of the centenary of Poland's regaining of independence.  

The national distinctions for service to the country and society were presented on behalf of the President of Poland by Minister Andrzej Dera at the Belvedere Palace on 27 January 2025.
