Rector Takes Part in Ceremony at the Avenue of Distinguished People of the Sea in Kosakowo
Three new stars have been added to the Avenue of Distinguished People of the Sea in Kosakowo. Honoured during the ceremony, which was held on 15 June 2025, were two past representatives of GMU: Commander Dr Michał Holec, Dean of the Faculty of Navigation during the years 2002-2008; and Captain Józef Miłobędzki, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Navigation from 1957-1958. Their names were addedd to a memorial plauqe alongside Commander Dr Zygmunt Miłoszewski.
In attendance at the ceremony was HM the Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit. He was joined by Eunika Niemc, Mayor of Kosakowo, Stanisław Władysław Śliwa, the President of the Board of the National Association of the Republic of Poland, General of the Association, as well as family members of those honoured. The commemorative plaque was unveiled by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, together with the son of Commander Dr Michał Holec.
The Avenue of Distinguished People of the Sea, named after Marshal Józef Piłsudski, was established on the initiative of the Piłsudski Association of the Republic of Poland, and its purpose is to build memory and the identity of coastal communities by honouring those who dedicated their lives to serving the sea and the nation.
