The Dar Młodzieży is continuing its voyage across the Atlantic as part of this year’s expedition to the United States. On 18 May 2026, at 08:30 local time, the sail training ship was located exactly between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde – around 360 nautical miles from both archipelagos. During the night, the vessel crossed the Tropic of Cancer.

Conditions at sea remain very good. The ship is maintaining a speed of between 7 and 9 knots, while the increasingly high temperatures are conducive to activity on board. The crew and trainees are carrying out their daily duties in line with the schedule. Both training and maintenance work connected with the operation of the sail training ship are ongoing.

The first-year students from the Faculty of Navigation at Gdynia Maritime University, who embarked on the ship on 10 May, have already had time to acclimatise to life at sea. After completing their introductory training, they also took part in height training, which included learning to work on the masts and yards. The trainees successfully passed their first Captain’s inspection. achieving very good results.

In connection with the long Atlantic crossing, arrangements have also begun for organising free time for the shipboard community. Groups have been formed to prepare sports events and a social and cultural programme, which will take place on board the Dar Młodzieży in the coming days.
