End of Year Patent Success for GMU Inventors

The end of 2025 saw much success for GMU inventors with several patents granted to the University.

The Polish Patent Office has granted Gdynia Maritime University exclusive rights to a registered design entitled

 ‘Cutting tool for finishing fillet welds’, Ru.30375, invented by Olga Łastowska, PhD(Eng), Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Sciences at the GMU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,

 as well as 3 inventions: 

– ‘Mounting assembly for a multi-edge tool for finishing machining of post-weld surfaces, and a method for manufacturing the mounting assembly’ (PL 248317), invented by Olga Łastowska, PhD(Eng).

– ‘Method for producing a composite material containing char, a composite material containing char, and use of the composite material containing char’ PL 248421, co-invented by Agata Wieczorska, MSc(Eng); Sylwia Bazychowska, Msc(Eng); and Katarzyna Panasiuk, PhD(Eng) of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; 

– ‘Mobile electromagnetic mooring system for small surface vessels’ PL 248420, con-invented by Captain Grzegorz Rutkowski, DSc(Eng); and Captain Paweł Kołakowski, MSc(Eng) – Department of Navigation at the Faculty of Navigation.

All solutions protected with the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland were initiated through pre-implementation work carried out by the GMU Technology Transfer Office in 2020–2023, as part of the 'Innovation Incubator 4.0' programme financed under the non-competition project 'Support for the management of scientific research and commercialisation of R&D results in scientific entities and enterprises', implemented under the Smart Operational Development Programme 2014-2020. (Measure 4.4).
