The very first Faculty of Management and Quality Science Day was held at Gdynia Maritime University on 16 April 2026. The event, which was organised by Faculty leaders in cooperation with the Faculty Council of the GMU Student Government, took place in the University’s Sports and Recreation Centre. It provided an excellent opportunity to both celebrate and integrate the Faculty’s academic community, combining academic, promotional, and social elements.

Faculty of Management and Quality Science Day was opened by Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science, and Dr Marzena Popek, Dean of the Faculty.

Opening addresses were followed by a talk given by the Dean, entitled ‘Where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re headed’. After the talk was a quiz in which participants put their knowledge of the Faculty to the test.

Faculty of Management and Quality Science Day featured a wide range of activities that attracted strong interest from students, staff, and friends of the Faculty. One of the main highlights was a showcase of the passions and hobbies of the Faculty's students and staff. On display was ceramic work, decoupage, lace-making, baking, travel, as well as collections of bird feathers, sculpture, and displays of old, often forgotten tools once used on farms in the Warmia region of Poland. It was a wonderful opportunity not only to admire the exhibits but also to talk to the enthusiasts behind them.

At specially prepared stands, the Faculty’s student scientific associations presented their projects and achievements with a great deal of passion and dedication. They also organised attractive competitions for students and invited pupils, including an outdoor game, a demonstration of the capabilities of VR headsets, and many other activities.

Also taking part in the event, at the invitation of the Faculty of Management and Quality Science, were secondary school pupils. The visit provided them with a chance to discover opportunities for further education at the Faculty, learn about the subjects taught, visit the campus, talk to students and teaching staff, and sample the atmosphere at the University. It was also a valuable opportunity to obtain information about the admission process at the Faculty. In addition, more than 120 pupils from secondary schools cooperating with the Faculty took part in workshops prepared by Faculty staff.

The organisation of the Faculty Day was combined with an employers’ fair aimed at enabling direct contact between students and secondary-school graduates and potential employers. The event featured workshops, presentations, and a company stand, which proved both highly interesting and needed by students. Participating companies included Langowski Logistics, JS Hamilton Poland Sp. z o.o. Gdynia, OPEC Sp. z o.o. Gdynia, Metrix Metal Sp. z o.o. Tczew, LPP S.A. Gdańsk, Graal S.A. Wejherowo, Uni-logistics Sp. z o.o. Gdynia, and Inaczej Real Estate Agency Gdynia.

Those attending the event also took part in the other attractions provided. Highly popular was the Kahoot General Knowledge Competition, organised by students from the Faculty Council of the GMU Student Government, in which 10 teams took part. During the day, the first-ever ‘Camera Award’ for a short film promoting study programmes was presented, and the winners of a competition for the design of a t-shirt promoting the Faculty were announced. The event also featured a charity raffle, offering participants the chance to win a range of attractive prizes while supporting the ‘Bursztynowa Przystań’ Children’s Hospice.

The culmination of the day’s events came in the form of the final of the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Quality Science Cup. Two teams, from the Faculty of Management and Quality Science and the Faculty of Marine Engineering, went head to head in an exciting match both on the court and in the stands. The match was full of spectacular plays and numerous twists and turns. It was the team from the Faculty of Marine Engineering, however, that came out on top and was the first to be presented with the cup by the Dean.

A successful first Faculty of Management and Quality Science Day came to a close with a chance to relax at an after-party at GMU Student Pub & Club ‘Bukszpryt’.

The Faculty Day no doubt strengthened ties within the academic community and established a positive image of the Faculty.

Thank you to all those who attended. We look forward to next year!
