GMU Delegation Visits Egypt, Opening New Horizons for Academic Cooperation
From 26 to 29 October 2026, a delegation from Gdynia Maritime University, led by the Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, visited the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria. The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen existing relations between the universities, exchange experience, and discuss possibilities for joint educational and scientific initiatives.
A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a document on deepening academic cooperation, encompassing education, the delivery of joint study programmes – including those leading to degrees from both institutions – as well as the conduct of scientific research and the exchange of experience. The agreement was signed by Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, and the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Professor Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag.
During their stay in Alexandria, the University delegation – which also included the Deputy Rector for Science Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for International Cooperation Dr Joanna Kizielewicz, and Director of the Maritime Institute Professor Krzysztof Czaplewski – also attended the Melaha 2026 international conference, organised by the Arab Institute of Navigation (AIN). The event was dedicated to innovative solutions in navigation, the application of satellite technologies, and the development of modern, sustainable transport systems. The conference brought together representatives of the academic community, transport industry experts, and commercial sector leaders.
During the visit, the University delegation also had the opportunity to tour the AASTMT Alamein campus. The GMU representatives were accompanied by Dr Mohamed Nabil El Shaib, Dean of Student Affairs, who showcased the institution's infrastructure and teaching facilities used in training specialists across various fields.
The October 2026 visit to Alexandria by the University’s representatives follows a cooperation agreement concluded between the two institutions in June 2025, which was signed at the time by Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, and Professor Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
