GMU Faculty of Navigation Students Undertake Study Visit to Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal
Between 21 and 26 June 2026, undergraduate Transport students from the Faculty of Navigation at Gdynia Maritime University undertook a study visit to the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal. The group of 15 students was accompanied by supervisors Dr Adam Kaizer and Agnieszka Tessmer from the GMU Promotion Office.
The itinerary included a comprehensive presentation of the host institution, providing the students with an insight into its educational programmes, research facilities, and academic structure. A key highlight of the itinerary was a tour of a state-of-the-art transport workshop, where the participants observed practical solutions deployed within the transport industry and explored the latest technologies and equipment.
Another key component of the visit was participation in the Nexus Programme Conference, which brought together academics and industry experts from the transport and logistics sectors. The students actively engaged in panel discussions and networking sessions with sector representatives from Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany. These encounters facilitated a valuable exchange of experiences, offered unique international perspectives on developments within the sector, and allowed students to establish professional contacts.
International educational visits play a vital role in the academic process. They enable students to acquire practical knowledge, develop professional competencies, and refine their language and communication skills within a global setting. Direct engagement with representatives from partner institutions and commercial enterprises provides a clearer understanding of modern labour market requirements and introduces students to diverse international practices. Ultimately, such experiences foster a proactive attitude toward global cooperation, teach effective collaboration within multicultural teams, and significantly enhance graduates' competitiveness in the European job market.
The visit was organised as part of the project ‘Sea of Competencies – Modern Education for the Needs of the Maritime Economy".
