GMU Leaders Take Part in Meeting of Maritime Council with President of Poland

On 9 March 2026, at the Belweder Palace in Warsaw, a meeting took place between the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, and representatives of the Maritime Council. Taking part in the meeting, at the invitation of the President, was HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit. 

During his address, the President emphasised that the dynamic economic and military changes taking place in the Baltic Sea region pose a significant challenge to Poland. President Nawrocki reminded those gathered that in October of last year, he formally submitted the draft legislation entitled ‘Yes to Polish Ports’ to the Sejm, requiring the government to undertake several investment projects designed to safeguard the country’s key economic and strategic interests.

The President also referred to the strategic political decisions taken over the past decade that made possible major infrastructure investments, pointing in particular to the Vistula Spit canal, the deepening of the Świnoujście–Szczecin waterway, the establishment of the Maritime Investment Fund, and the construction of the Baltic Hub container terminal.

Accompanying the President of Poland at the meeting were the Head of the Presidential Office, Paweł Szefernaker, and the Head of the Office for National Security, Sławomir Cenckiewicz.

Taking part in the meeting on behalf of the University were: HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit; his predecessor, Professor Janusz Zarębski; Professor Ireneusz Czarnowski, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science; Captain Dariusz Jellonnek, Director of the Maritime Operations Department; Dr Captain Henryk Śniegocki, GMU Associate Professor; Dr Captain Grzegorz Rutkowski, GMU Associate Professor; and Sławomir Kalicki, Chair of the University Council.
