More Than 1400 Visitors Attend GMU Open Day
On Friday, 6 March 2026, Gdynia Maritime University opened its doors to all those interested in studying at the oldest maritime university in Poland. From 9:00 to 14:00, visitors had the opportunity to discover the University’s study programmes, take a closer look at its modern teaching infrastructure, and talk to our students and teaching staff.
The Open Day was held in two locations: the University’s main building on Morska Street and at the Faculty of Navigation near the seafront in the centre of Gdynia. The day’s programme of events enabled participants to get a closer look at daily life at GMU and experience for themselves the education process for future blue economy professionals.
One of the highlights of Open Day was visits to the University’s laboratories and simulators, used daily in the teaching of our students. These sessions provided a unique opportunity for visitors to experience for themselves work on a navigational bridge or in a specialist workshop and attracted a great deal of interest. Visitors also took part in demonstrations and workshops prepared by GMU staff and students.
Many of our visitors took time to discover the work of the University’s Student Scientific Associations at their stands in the T.Meissner Auditorium – giving them a window into how they might develop their passions and interests as a member of one of these thriving student organisations. The 3 most interesting Student Scientific Association stands, as decided during Open Day, were:
- EVPL Association of Electric Vehicle Users
- MIKROBOT
- And the commodity science Scientific Association ‘CARGO’
A distinction was also awarded to the Maritime Medicine and Rescue Student Scientific Association ‘SEAMED’.
An important part of Open Day was the conversations between the University’s current students and those considering the University as their future place of study. Students gladly shared their experience of studying, academic life, and the opportunities for development at GMU.
Open Day at Gdynia Maritime University once again showed the importance of face-to-face contact with future students and the chance to experience in person the University’s modern teaching infrastructure. The event provided a welcome opportunity to sample student life at GMU and was for many young people the first step in deciding their future path as a student in higher education.
We would like to thank all members of staff and students at Gdynia Maritime University for their involvement in organising the spring Open Day at Gdynia Maritime University.
