On 16 March 2026, the final of the Knowledge of Gdynia competition was held at the exceptional Museum of Emigration in Gdynia. Each year, the competition attracts many young history enthusiasts and Gdynia enthusiasts.  This year’s event brought together the best pupils from primary and secondary schools, selected through earlier qualifying rounds.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Gdynia, Aleksandra Kosiorek, who underlined the importance of local history knowledge.

The competition’s academic standards were overseen by the Scientific Committee, headed by Dr Piotr Kopacz, an assistant professor in the Department of Navigation at the GMU Faculty of Navigation. The Committee’s involvement and experience ensured questions were of a high standard.

Taking part in the grand final were the best 20 pupils. The contestants demonstrated impressive knowledge of the history of Gdynia, its development, and key figures. The competition among them was extremely close and charged with emotion, with the responses testifying to the youngsters’ impressive level of dedication.

Gdynia Maritime University had the honour of supporting the event by providing the winners with vouchers for an exclusive viewing at the A. Ledochowski Planetarium – both an attractive prize and no doubt a source of inspiration for further learning.
