On Friday, 6 March, a special meeting marking Women’s Day was held at Gdynia Maritime University, dedicated to all the women working at our University.

The event was hosted by Dr Marcin Frycz, who, on behalf of HM The Rector of GMU, welcomed all attendees, stressing their extremely important role in building the academic community.

HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, also addressed the gathered guests with special words of thanks for their commitment and contribution to the University’s development. He wished them good health, satisfaction in their professional work, and the fulfilment of both their greatest aspirations and everyday hopes

A Musical Surprise with a Maritime Touch

A special highlight of the event was a musical surprise with a distinctly maritime character. Performing at the University’s 'Pellowski' restaurant was the all-male shanty choir Zawisza Czarny – a group dedicated to preserving the traditions of maritime and sailing songs.

The choir performed both classic sea shanties and contemporary sea-inspired pieces, while the first verse of the shanty Chłopcy ahoj was led by HM The Rector.

For years, the artists of Zawisza Czarny have performed at cultural events and major sailing festivals, helping to create an atmosphere of community and the spirit of seafaring tradition. The concert was a musical tribute to all the ladies, accompanied by best wishes and a generous dose of maritime energy.

The meeting concluded in a joyful atmosphere, with sweet refreshments and an additional attraction in the form of a photo booth, which proved very popular.
