The Event

On 20 to 23 May 2024, Gdynia Maritime University held its annual Sports Day.

The event began with the University's 3rd Sudoku Competition, in which 50 participants competed for the fastest time.

The second day of sporting activities saw 18 teams made up of the University's students and staff go head to head in kayak and sailing races and on stand-up paddle (SUP) boards k, on the Raduński Lake at the Stella Maris Recreation Centre in the Kashubian countryside.

On Thursday 23 May 2024, the final day of competition, the University officially opened its new Sports and Recreation Centre, which boasts a modern sports hall, gym, fitness rooms, saunas, conference rooms, and underground parking.

The six teams, representing each of the University's four faculties, the Maritime Institute, and the University's administration, continued their rivalry in the remaining events in the Centre's impressive sports hall.

The afternoon of competition kicked off with a symbolic penalty kick taken by HM Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit.

The teams participated in seven events, starting with a crate race, blanket ball, an ergometer rowing race, climbing wall, penalty kicks, and tug of war.

Taking place at the same time as the competitions held at the GMU Sports and Recreation Centre in the Tri-City Landscape Park near the University on a route based on the existing permanent orienteering was a cycling competition.

The GMU Sports Day came to an end with the awarding of medals and a winners' cup and was followed by a banquet for GMU students and staff held on the main University campus.
