Rector Meets with Staff from Newly Established Faculty of Computer Science
On 1 October 2024, the first day of the new academic year, HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, met with staff from Gdynia Maritime University’s Newly Established Faculty of Computer Science.
The Faculty of Computer Science was appointed on 1 September 2024 from the staff at the Department of Information Systems, previously part of the Faculty of Management and Quality Science, and the Department of Mathematics, formerly in the Faculty of Navigation. The new Faculty is reinforced by personnel from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and a few members of staff from other departments and faculties.
During the meeting GMU staff members discussed the process of establishing the new Faculty, the work of GMU researchers in computer science, and the incorporation of one of the University’s leading academic disciplines – Technical Computing and Telecommunications – which until September could be studied as one of the degree programmes in IT at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
Prospects for the development of the Faculty and its academic activity were also a topic of discussion. Work will soon begin on developing the structure of the Faculty of Computer Science and programmes of study for its future students.
