GMU Delegation Lays Wreath at Grave of Captain Karol Olgierd Borchardt

On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Karol Olgierd Borchardt, HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit; the Deputy Rector for Education and Student Affairs, Dr Sambor Guze; Chancellor Filip Malata; and the Director of the GMU Karol Olgierd Borchardt Main Library, Dr Joanna Krzywonos, laid a wreath at the grave of Captain Karol Olgierd Borchardt.

Ensuring the ceremonial setting of the occasion was Gdynia Maritime University's Guard of Honour, which provided an honorary guard at the Witomino Cemetery - Captain Karol Olgierd Borchardt's place of rest. Also taking part in the cemetery were representatives of the Karol Olgierd Borchardt Primary School in Gdynia.

Captain Karol Olgierd Borchard was a participant in the Polish-Bolshevik War, a graduate of the Maritime School in Tczew, an officer on Dar Pomorza, one of the architects of maritime education in Great Britain during World War II, a distinguished teacher of astronavigation, and mentor to many generations of sailors. He was also a writer and author of maritime works, including stories about serving on the ships Lwów and Dar Pomorza, which have often influenced young people's decisions to join the Polish Merchant Navy.
