General Admission Guidelines – Bachelor’s Studies (Full-Time and Part-Time)

Eligibility

Applicants for bachelor’s degree programmes must hold a secondary school leaving certificate that entitles the holder to apply for higher education in the country where it was issued.
This may include:

  • a Polish Matura certificate, or
  • another recognised secondary school leaving certificate (or equivalent qualification) entitling the applicant to apply for higher education in their own country

If your certificate was issued outside Poland, it must:

  • be legalised or bear an apostille (except for documents issued in EU countries or International Baccalaureate and European Baccalaureate diplomas);
  • be translated into Polish by a sworn translator; and
  • if required, be accompanied by a statement from the Director of NAWA (Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange) confirming that it is recognised for further study in Poland.

This statement is not required for certificates issued by countries that are members of the EU, EFTA or OECD, or those covered by international agreements on recognition of education (e.g., China, Ukraine), as well as for IB and EB diplomas.

Basis for Admission of Non-Nationals

Non-nationals may study in Poland on the basis of:

  • international agreements, in accordance with the rules specified in these agreements;
  • agreements concluded with foreign institutions by Gdynia Maritime University, in compliance with the regulations outlined in these agreements;
  • a decision of the Minister for Higher Education;
  • a decision of the Director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) concerning its scholarships;
  • a decision of the Director of the National Science Centre (NCN) allocating funds for the implementation of research projects, internships, or scholarships;
  • a decision of the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University (following an submitted application in accordance with these guidelines).

Admissions Process

Admissions are carried out for a specific degree programme, level, and profile (practical or general academic) in either full-time or part-time mode. Successful completion leads to the award of a Bachelor’s or an Engineer’s degree (in Polish 'inż' - Equivalent of Bachelor of Engineering).

How to Apply

  1. Register online
    All applications are made through the Online Admissions System at https://irk.umg.edu.pl.
  2. Selection process
    Applicants are admitted within the set enrolment limits, based on a qualification procedure.
    Admission is determined by the results of the Matura examination or an equivalent school-leaving examination.
    The same admission criteria apply to all degree programmes offered by Gdynia Maritime University.
  3. Application fee
    A non-refundable application fee is charged for the admission process.
    The amount is set by the Rector in accordance with the relevant ministerial regulation.
    If a study programme is not launched, the fee will be refunded in full upon the applicant’s request.

Documents and Qualifications

  • Applicants who completed secondary school outside Poland may apply if their certificate entitles them to enter higher education in the country where it was issued.
    Such certificates must be recognised in Poland through the nostrification procedure, which is carried out by the appropriate regional education authority.
  • If the applicant has not yet received their final certificate before the start of the academic year, they may apply based on a statement from their school confirming that the certificate will be issued that year.
    The statement must be certified by a Polish diplomatic or consular post and translated into Polish by a sworn translator.
  • Holders of the International Baccalaureate (IB) or European Baccalaureate (EB) diplomas are admitted to all programmes in the first round of selection.
  • All applicants must meet the medical fitness requirements for studying at Gdynia Maritime University.

Admission Decisions

  • Faculty Admission Committees publish the official list of admitted applicants for each programme, level, and study mode.
    The order on the list is based on the number of points achieved in the qualification process.
  • If two or more applicants receive the same score, the Committee considers exam results in the following order: mathematics, physics, chemistry, English.
  • Admission to studies is confirmed by inclusion on the official list of students.
    A refusal of admission is issued in the form of an administrative decision.

Appeals

Applicants who are not admitted may appeal to the Rector within 14 days of receiving the decision, through the relevant Faculty Admission Committee.
An appeal must indicate a procedural error that occurred during the qualification process.


Supplementary Admissions Rounds

If places remain available after the main admission process, the Rector may approve an additional round of admissions, admitting applicants with the highest scores on the waiting list.


Final Provisions

In cases not covered by these rules, decisions are made by the Rector.
The University is not responsible for any errors made by applicants when entering personal data in the Online Admissions System.
