GMU Signs Cooperation Agreement with the City of Gdynia
On 9 April 2025, Gdynia Maritime University entered into a cooperation agreement with the City of Gdynia. The cooperation between the University and the local authorities is to be carried out in urban mobility, transport, and logistics. The agreement was signed by Aleksandra Kosiorek, Mayor of Gdynia, and Professor Adam Weintrit, the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University.
Professor Adam Weintrit made the following comment on the occasion:
I am particularly pleased to sign today’s agreement on cooperation in urban mobility, transport, and logistics between our University and the city of Gdynia. Gdynia Maritime University is an essential educational institution that plays the main part in the development of future maritime personnel. A great number of our graduates, who came to us from various regions of Poland and from abroad, decide to settle in Gdynia and find employment with the Maritime Office and the Port of Gdynia.
The event was attended by Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science, Dr Sambor Guze, Deputy Rector for Education, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk, Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Chancellor Filip Malata, and Tadeusz Szemiot, the Chairman of the City Council.
Additionally, the meeting provided space to reminisce on past cooperation between the two parties, and discuss potential future cooperation in relation to Gdynia’s upcoming centenary. Supporting the the organisation of events accompanying the celebrations will be the Honorary Committee for the 100th Anniversary of Gdynia, led by Tadeusz Szemiot as its head. The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, and Małgorzata Sokołowska, the longstanding editor of the University bulletin, Kurier Morski are members of the Committee. The Rector used the occasion to mention that cooperation between the University and city’s authorities has been very fruitful over the years:
Over many years, our experts have been involved in initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in Gdynia, sharing their knowledge and experience with those who live here. In return, we have always been able to rely on the goodwill of the city’s Authorities and their openness to the actions taken by the University, for which I am deeply grateful. The Agreement we entered into today is undoubtedly going to strengthen the cooperation between us, which will be to the greater benefit of the city and Gdynia Maritime University.
The Cooperation Agreement will be the basis on which the parties will enter into joint projects, sustainable development analysis, as well as field research on urban mobility, and the transport behaviours of local residents and commuters and visitors to the local urban area.
