For the 5th year, the GMU Faculty of Marine Engineering has hosted the exceptional Mechanical Engineers’ Day - the Faculty’s own celebration day aimed at students, staff, and friends of the Faculty. Mechanical Engineers' Day was originally conceived as a celebration aimed primarily at its students. Today, however, it has developed into a multidimensional event, comprising numerous activities and distinguished by an unprecedented scale.

This year’s edition was officially inaugurated on 23 October 2025 at 10 am in the sports hall of the University’s Sports and Recreation Centre by the hosts of the event, HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, and the Dean of the Faculty of Marine Engineering, Professor Andrzej Miszczak.

Nevertheless, the first of many significant events of the day began as early as 9 am in the auditorium of the Sports and Recreation Centre, where graduates of the Faculty, winners of the Best Diploma Thesis competition under the MechaPraca module, presented their projects.  Following the votes of students, staff, the jury, and employer representatives, first place and the Grand Prix prize of PLN 3,000, funded by HM the Rector, were awarded to Damian Arentowicz for his thesis ‘Design of Spatial Models of Marine Engine Parts such as a Cover, Screw, and Gasket Using 3D Printing.’ Second place and a prize of PLN 2,000, funded by the Dean of the Faculty of Marine Engineering, were awarded to Piotr Jaworski. Additional prizes for the winners and finalists were also funded and presented by employer representatives from Dohle, SKM, Deneco, Kongsberg, and Nauta Shipyard.

In the main hall of the Sports and Recreation Centre, as part of the 'Day with an Employer' event, 28 representatives of employers from the Pomeranian region — companies that have long-standing ties with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, cooperating closely and employing its students and graduates — presented their stands. Among the attractions that drew particular interest from visitors this year were a Boeing 737 flight simulator and a welding simulator. Over the course of four hours, hundreds of Gdynia Maritime University students passed through the exhibition pavilion, establishing contacts and gaining key information essential for their future professional careers.

Meanwhile, workshops and visits to laboratory demonstrations were held around the campus for students from invited secondary schools as part of the MechaFuture module. Other groups of young people and friends of the Faculty could take part in one of the many open lectures given on the day as part of the MechaLectures series. In this alone, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering hosted several hundred pupils and teachers.

As part of Mechanical Engineers' Day, the Best Student Internship Report competition as part of MechaPraktyka event was also decided, with Oskar Pasieka named the winner. An important element of the programme was a table tennis tournament for the Dean’s Cup, organised under the telling codename MechaPong. Representatives of all five GMU faculties took part, but the undisputed winner on the day was Kamil Niewiadomski from the Faculty of Computer Science.

At 2 pm, following the awards ceremony, the official part of Mechanical Engineers’ Day concluded, and the main activities moved to the Faculty class rooms and the Bukszpryt pub & club, where students from all years at the Faculty of Marine Engineering competed in the MechaTasks. Following hours of contests, including the Constructor competition, a sea-shanty contest, and a pub quiz, prizes were presented to the winners and all participants shortly after 7 pm. The event was capped off with a student-and-staff social event at the pub & club.
