GMU Authorities Take Part in 18th Polish Maritime Pilots Association Convention

From 24 to 25 October 2025, the 18th Polish Maritime Pilots Association Convention (PMPA) was held in Szczecin. The event was attended by HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, who opened the Convention’s conference.

The Polish Maritime Pilots Convention was also attended representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the heads of the International Maritime Pilots’ Association (IMPA) and the European Maritime Pilots’ Association (EMPA). These included Simon Pelletier, President of the IMPA, Miguel Vieira de Castro, President of the EMPA, and Erik Dalege, Chair of the Bundeslotsenkammer (German Association of Maritime Pilots). The event also saw the participation of representatives from the worlds of science, business, and maritime administration.

The conference held as part of the MPA Convention was opened by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, who gave a lecture on the challenges faced by maritime pilots in the field of electronic and autonomous navigation. During the conference, experts also discussed topics such as the use of modern technologies by maritime pilots, legal aspects of maritime piloting in Poland, and gave a presentation on the Ship Handling Centre in Iława.

During the event, the past two years of the Association’s activities were also reviewed. Among other topics, the 59th Conference of the European Maritime Pilots’ Association, organised by the PMPA and held in Kraków in May 2024, was discussed, and new board members for the Association were elected for the next term of office.
