University Holds 4th Tricity GIS Day

For the fourth year, Gdynia Maritime University has held the event known as Trójmiejski GIS Day in the auditorium on the main campus. The event gathered together students, researchers, and representatives of the GIS sector to mark the annual international event celebrating geographic information systems (GIS).

On 20 November 2025, Gdynia Maritime University, the local Tricity GIS Day was held at Gdynia Maritime University. The event was organised by the student scientific society LoGIStic, under the supervision of Dr Oktawia Specht. GIS Day was opened by Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science. 

During the three thematic sessions, participants listened to inspiring presentations by experts representing the Gdańsk Development Office, the State Forests – Kartuzy Forest District, the company Gdańskie Wody, Geo-System Sp. z o.o., the Polish Space Agency (POLSA), the QGIS Polska Association, Gdynia Maritime University, Esri Polska, Gdańsk University of Technology and GISPRO. Presentations focused on topics such as spatial planning, environmental analysis, satellite systems, urban digital twins and new developments in GIS applications.

The event included a poster session and a GIS quiz, and provided a platform for integration and exchange of experiences. Taking part in the post sessions were also students from other higher education centres around Poland, including Szczecin Maritime University and Poznań University of Technology. Students presented a total of 22 academic posters.
