Rector Attends Sitting of Geodesy Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences and Metallugists Day Celebrations in Kraków

On 8 and 9 May 2025, HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, took part in a sitting of the Geodesy Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, of which he is a member. Following the sitting, the Rector also attended traditional celebrations for Dzień Hutnika [Metallurgist Day], a celebration day which has been organised annually at AGH University of Science and Technology since 1962. The event, which was led by the Rector of AGH University, Professor Jerzy Lis, was accompanied by scientific conferences, seminars, and student presentations.

Celebrations for Metallurgist Day take place around the time of St. Florian’s Day, who is the patron saint of steelworkers. The event is attended by scientists, students, and representatives of industry. The highlight of the celebrations takes place in the university’s main auditorium, where the ceremonial Foundry Oath is held. During the ceremony, first-year metallurgy students symbolically forge a piece of metal, after which the Master of Ceremonies formally inducts them as metallurgists.
