Higher Education Centres Join Celebrations for Gdynia's Centenary
On 14 January 2026, representatives of four Gdynia higher education centres met with Mayor of Gdynia, Aleksandra Kosiorek, to discuss shared initiatives in connection with celebrations for Gdynia’s 100-year anniversary. Gdynia Maritime University was represented by Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science.
Gdynia Maritime University, the Polish Naval Academy, the E. Kwiatkowski University of Administration and Business, WSB Merito University in Gdynia, and the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk (based in Gdynia) will join the anniversary celebrations by co-organising events and taking part in debates and lectures prepared for the city’s residents. These joint initiatives are also intended to provide an impetus for the further development of the University’s cooperation with the City of Gdynia.
In April 2025, representatives from the worlds of business, culture, academia, as well as members of parliament, diplomats, and local government officials were invited to join the Honorary Committee for the Celebration of the Centenary of Gdynia. Invitations to join the Committee were received by Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, and Małgorzata Sokołowska, long-time editor-in-chief of the University’s Maritime Newsletter.
The City of Gdynia is due to announce the details of its cooperation with the higher education institutions shortly.
