On 18 February 2026, at noon, the opening of the ‘GDYNIA X 10’ exhibition took place as part of celebrations during the ‘Year of the City of Gdynia’, proclaimed by the Polish Senate to mark the 100th anniversary of Gdynia being granted city rights. The exhibition was opened by the Marshal of the Senate, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, and was attended by HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit.

Among the guests were the exhibition’s initiator, Senator Sławomir Rybicki, as well as representatives of the City of Gdynia: Mayor Aleksandra Kosiorek and City Council Chair Tadeusz Szemiot. The exhibition is based on collections from two Gdynia museums: the Gdynia City Museum and the Polish Navy Museum in Gdynia.

The display presents ten decades of Gdynia’s history – from modernism, through the wartime period and the social changes of the 1970s and 1980s, to the post-1989 years shaped by new trends in everyday life and local politics. Visitors were guided by Karin Moder (Director of the Gdynia City Museum), Tomasz Miegoń (Director of the Polish Navy Museum), and Michał Miegoń (curator). The event was accompanied by a performance by the men’s sea shanty choir ‘Zawisza Czarny’.

The exhibition at the Polish Senate is open to visitors until 25 March 2026.
