GMU Representatives Take Part in Celebrations for Gdynia’s Centenary
On 10 February 2026 at 10:00 in front of the ORP Błyskawica in the Pomeranian Quay ceremonial celebrations were held for the 100th anniversary of the award of city status to Gdynia. Representing Gdynia Maritime University was HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit. The event was also attended by the Gdynia Maritime University standard-bearer delegation.
The central element of the event was a roll-call ceremony with a military honour guard, bringing together members of parliament, representatives of city and local authorities, the senior command of the Polish Navy, the academic community, and institutions linked to the maritime economy.
Gdynia Maritime University was represented by HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, whose participation highlighted the University’s strong, long-standing ties with Gdynia – ‘the city of the sea and dreams’ – where the University has been based for almost 96 years.
The ceremony also featured the standard-bearer delegation of Gdynia Maritime University, provided by the University’s Guard of Honour, which proudly represented the GMU community during this special jubilee.
The celebrations were an expression of respect for the city’s history and its dynamic development, while also underscoring Gdynia’s role as an important academic, maritime, and sailing centre in Poland.
Long live Gdynia!
