17.02.2026 | 2 min. czytania

On the last Saturday of the Carnival Season – this year 14 February 2026 – the Tadeusz Meissner Auditorium at Gdynia Maritime University hosted the exceptional annual Maritime Ball.

Representatives of the University authorities, staff, students, alumni, and invited guests took part in the event. The guest list included members of parliament, local and city authorities, as well as representatives of business and academia and friends of the University.

Guests arriving for the 31st Maritime Ball were welcomed by HM The Rector and his wife. Students then escorted attendees to their tables.

At 19:30, in keeping with maritime tradition, the Ball was officially inaugurated with the symbolic seven strikes and ‘seven glasses’. HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, opened the evening, noting that this year’s Ball took place during a special time as Gdynia celebrates its centenary, and wished everyone an enjoyable evening.

After dinner, the dancing began with a traditional polonaise, led by students and the Rector with his wife. Live music was provided by M–ART LIVE, and the event was hosted by Aleksander Gosk.

The Ball also featured a dance performance, and the programme included additional attractions such as a celebratory cake, a Valentine-themed photo area, and the selection of the ‘Most Dance-Loving Couple of the Maritime Ball’.

The tradition of the Maritime Ball dates back to the days of the Maritime School in Tczew, when students helped decorate the hall. It continues today, with the Ball held every year – typically on the last Saturday of the carnival season.
