GMU Leaders Meet with Ministry of Infrastructure Representatives

On 6 March 2026, a meeting took place in the main Gdynia Maritime University building between University leadership representatives and representatives of the Department of Maritime Education and the Budget Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure.  Gdynia Maritime University representatives were led by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit. Representing the Department of Maritime Education was Wojciech Gąsowski, Department Director. On behalf of the Budget Department at the Ministry of Infrastructure, the meeting was attended by Director Adam Orzechowski.

The meeting aimed to discuss ongoing cooperation between the University and the departments, as well as to exchange experiences concerning the functioning of the education system for maritime personnel. 

The Budget Department was also represented by Deputy Director Emilia Pieczara, while the Maritime Education Department was represented by the Head of the Science and Education Division, Justyna Kierylak-Szczepańska. GMU was also represented by Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy-Rector for Science; Dr Sambor Guze, Deputy-Rector for Education and Student Affairs; Tomasz Tarasiuk, Deputy-Rector for Internationalisation, Cooperation and Development; and Filip Malata, GMU Chancellor. The meeting was also attended by the Deans of the University, the University Bursar, and the Directors. 

During the talks, the participants addressed, among other things, issues related to the development of the University's teaching infrastructure, including the challenges involved in building a new training vessel as the successor to the Dar Młodzieży. The discussion also covered the University's current needs resulting from its continued development. 

An important part of the discussion also focused on the role of Gdynia Maritime University in educating future officers of the merchant fleet and specialists for the maritime economy sector, including offshore wind energy. The participants also emphasised the role and importance of close cooperation between the University, the Maritime Education Department, and the Budget Department in ensuring high-quality education, which translates into the competitiveness of Polish maritime education on the international stage and supports the future employment of the University's graduates in the maritime sector.
