Rector Attends Consultation Meeting Regarding Strategy for the Internationalisation of Polish Higher Education and Science

On 25 March 2026, a consultation meeting took place regarding the National Strategy for the Internationalisation of Polish Higher Education and Science, devised by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Taking part in the consultation on behalf of Gdynia Maritime University was HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, who is a member of the Council of Rectors of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The meeting, which was held at the University of Gdańsk Library, was attended by representatives of the rectors associated within the Council of Rectors of the Pomeranian Voivodeship who are responsible for internationalisation at their respective higher education centres. Also in attendance were representatives of the National Representation of Doctoral Students and the Student Parliament of the Republic of Poland. 

The meeting was chaired by Dr Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Internationalisation at Gdańsk University. Also taking part were the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Professor Andrzej Szeptycki, and the Director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), Dr Wojciech Karczewski.

During the meeting, the importance of internationalisation as an instrument for improving the quality of education was emphasised. It was also pointed out that this process is in response to labour market needs. 

The event also provided an opportunity to present and discuss the current stage of work on the Strategy for the Internationalisation of Polish Higher Education and Science and to identify new directions through the planned consultation process. 

As indicated during the consultation, the next stage of work on the Strategy will involve the introduction of any amendments. The document will then undergo further consultation, this time within the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP), only after completion of which will it be submitted to the Ministry.
