Dar Młodzieży Returns to Gdynia From Training Voyage to Antwerp
On 10 April 2026, Gdynia Maritime University’s sail training ship, the Dar Młodzieży, docked in its home port of Gdynia following a training voyage to Antwerp. The trainees, their supervisors and the crew were welcomed by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, and Captain Dr Rowan Van Schaeren, Rector of Antwerp Maritime Academy, and his wife.
The Dar Młodzieży set sail on its first training voyage of the season on 13 February 2026, following the completion of repairs. The ship made a brief stop in Świnoujście before returning to its home port on 21 February.
On board the tall ship were Polish maritime secondary school pupils and their tutors. On 2 March, the white frigate once again took to the sea and headed to Antwerp for a changeover of trainees. For the next stage of the voyage, the pupils were replaced by a group of 128 participants (trainees, coaches and instructors) from Antwerp Maritime Academy, with which the University has been cooperating since 2008. The trainees from Belgium were also welcomed to Gdynia on behalf of GMU by Captain Dariusz Jellonek, Director of the Maritime Operations Department.
On 11 April, 43 students from the Faculty of Marine Engineering at Gdynia Maritime University, accompanied by a training supervisor, will embark the ship together with 55 pupils from Świnoujście and two supervisors. The Dar will then depart on 16 April for the Port of Douglas on the Isle of Man (Irish Sea), continuing on to Cádiz (Spain), where on 10 May the students and pupils will complete their training.
