Dar Młodzieży Departs Isle of Man and Heads for Cadiz
The Dar Młodzieży has visited the Isle of Man. After sailing 1200 nautical miles since departing its home port in Gdynia just over a week ago, the Dar Młodzieży spent the weekend of 25-26 April anchored in the port of Douglas on the Isle of Man. On board the ship are students from the Faculty of Marine Engineering at Gdynia Maritime University and Pupils from the Maritime Schools Complex in Świonujście.
The ship's stay at the port of Douglas was of a particularly ceremonial nature with local government officials and diplomats coming on board. Visits to the ship were made by Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer, Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man, and his wife; Alfred Cannan, Chief Minister of the Isle of Man, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, including the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester, Ireneusz Truszkowski. Also paying a visit to the White Frigate was Marcin Białek, Poland’s Permanent Representative to the IMO at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London.
The ship remained open to the public during the weekend, with local media and members of the Polish diaspora also taking the opportunity to pay a visit.
On 27 April, the Dar Młodzieży left port in Douglas and set a heading for Cadiz in Spain.
On 28 April at 09:47 hours, the Captain of the Dar Młodzieży, Michał Sadowski, gave an update on the ship’s progress:
The Dar Młodzieży is making her way across the Irish Sea under sail towards the Bay of Biscay. We are enjoying beautiful, sunny weather, with the wind from astern, and at times our speed reaches 11 knots.
Daily work continues on board — there’s the sound of hammers as maintenance work is underway, and preparations are being made for the weekly Captain’s inspection, which was postponed due to the ship’s stay in port.
We are scheduled to arrive in Cádiz on 8 May, and are hoping for favourable conditions and further valuable experience for our trainees.
