Coming Soon: Maritime Festival of Science
From 11 to 13 June 2026, Gdynia Maritime University, as part of its commitment to socially responsible science, will organise the Maritime Festival of Science for the third time.
The aim of the event is to popularise science and the research carried out at the University, and to build awareness and spark interest in science among the public. The festival is an excellent opportunity for integration and the exchange of experience between the academic community and external institutions, such as general and technical secondary schools, as well as students and anyone else interested in taking part in the event.
The faculties of our University – Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Marine Engineering, Navigation, Management and Quality Science – together with the Maritime Institute, have prepared a rich programme including workshops, lectures and interactive classes, offering participants the chance to see the broad application of research results and science in the widest sense in practical tasks.
Two days of science
During the two days of the Maritime Festival of Science, participants will be able to learn about the more than 100-year history of our University, and discover maritime ceremonial, customs and traditions. They will also find out how to sell effectively, what a professional salesperson does, how containers make their way to Gdynia, and much more.
There will also be workshops on optoelectronics, the construction of electronic devices, robot programming, technical measurements, and how to survive on a life raft. Classes on the first day of the festival will take place in the University’s main building on Morska Street, while on the second day participants will be welcomed to the Faculty of Navigation near Kościuszko Square.
In addition, festival participants will get the chance to visit modern laboratories, including the Strength of Materials Laboratory, the Hydroacoustics Laboratory, and the Automation and Robotics Laboratory. They will also have the opportunity to learn about the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System simulation laboratory and a VR simulator for specialist vehicles used in the transport, shipping and logistics sector.
Registration for individual workshops and lectures opens at 15:00 on 6 May via:

Maritime Picnic – the third day of the Festival
The Maritime Festival of Science will culminate in a third day of attractions, during which a maritime picnic combined with a shanty concert will be held for participants and organisers. The picnic will take place on the Faculty of Navigation campus.
It will be a time for the integration of the GMU academic community with young minds – perhaps future scientists – as well as with the wider public. It will also show everyone that science is nothing to be afraid of: you can have fun with it and even take joy in it while discovering its various elements.
