Rector Takes Part in 2nd Forum of Rectors of Poland and Türkiye
On 8 May 2026, HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit, represented the University at the 2nd Forum of Rectors of Poland and Türkiye. Held at the University of Gdańsk, the Forum brings together representatives of university authorities from Poland and Türkiye, with the aim of developing academic, scientific, and institutional cooperation between the communities of both countries.
During the event, HM The Rector signed three cooperation agreements on behalf of Gdynia Maritime University with Turkish universities: Istanbul Technical University, Karadeniz Technical University and Dokuz Eylül University.
The 2nd Forum of Rectors of Poland and Türkiye continues the dialogue initiated during the first meeting, which took place in September 2025 in Ankara.
This year’s discussions focused on the development of joint degree programmes, the establishment of international research centres, support for academic mobility, the exchange of good practices in managing inter-university partnerships, and more. An important part of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in higher education between Poland and Türkiye. The document was signed by Marcin Kulasek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland, and Professor Erol Özvar, President of the Turkish Council of Higher Education, YÖK.
The Forum programme included six thematic panels: Development of Dual-Use Technologies at Technical Universities in Poland and Türkiye; Perspectives for Polish-Turkish Cooperation in Social Sciences and Humanities; Institutional Partnerships, Language Support and Research Centres as Bridges for Cooperation; Opportunities for Polish-Turkish Cooperation in Medical and Natural Sciences; Polish-Turkish academic cooperation – from Erasmus mobility to partnerships; and Realizing Potentials and Opportunities in Turkish Universities for Polish Students and Academicians.
Taking part in the event were the rectors and representatives of around 40 universities from both countries, as well as representatives of institutions responsible for the development of higher education and science.
The event was organised by Gdańsk University, the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education; the Turkish Council of Higher Education, YÖK; the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP); and Perspective Education Foundation.
The Forum’s partners are the Polish National Agency for Education Exchange (NAWA) and Foundation for the Development of the Education System (FRSE).
