7 May 2026 saw the start of the Polish-German 20th Polish-German Student Seminar entitled “Managing Cultural Diversity in Europe”, organised by Gdynia Maritime University and Hochschule Bremerhaven - University of Applied Science under the patronage of the Rectors of both universities. As part of this year’s edition of the seminar, the “IT Track of the Polish-German Joint Seminar” was organised for the first time.

The seminar will be held over the next two weeks, GMU hosting students from Hochschule Bremerhaven - University of Applied Science during the first week (6-12 May 2026), and GMU students making their way to Bremerhaven for the second week (28 May – 6th June 2026), where they will continue sessions with their German counterparts.

The seminar was opened by HM Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, who welcomed all the participants and reminded them of the longstanding cooperation between GMU and Hochschule Bremerhaven.

Due to the two thematic tracks, this year’s seminar is attended by as many as 25 students from both universities. The University is also pleased to welcome two professors from the German University, Professor Gerhard Feldmeier, and GMU Honorary Doctor, Professor Hans Rummel.

The seminar’s programme of events includes lectures in English given by the teaching staff at both universities, meetings with leading university staff and student organisation representatives, as well as visits to Polish and German companies. The first part of the seminar in Gdynia will include the following interesting lectures:

  1. Managing Cultural Diversity in Europe - presented in two parts by Professor Gerhard Feldmeier
  2. Monetary Policy and Managing Inflation Expectations – the case of chosen European countries, presented by Dr Karolina Tura-Gawron,
  3. The role of interpersonal communication in business (interactive lecture) - presented by Agnieszka Czarnecka,

As part of the IT Track, students also carry out an International IT Project in Maritime Analytics, which relates to the research area being developed at the Faculty of Computer Science on the use of information technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, in Maritime Information Systems and Maritime Business Management.

The seminar is also intended to familiarise Polish and German students with the conditions in which both universities operate and to encourage them to undertake studies at partner institutions under the Erasmus+ programme, as well as to enable them to learn about the history and culture of both regions Pomerania and the State of Bremen.

The student’s integration will also include attractions such as:

  • An integration event in the GMU Sports and Recreation Centre,
  • A visit to Malbork Castle,
  • A canal boat trip from Elbląg to Buczyniec,
  • a visit to the Viking exposition at the Archaeological Museum,
  • A visit to the seal sanctuary in Hel (Stacja Morska im. prof. Krzysztofa Skóry),
  • Time spent exploring the monuments in Gdańsk, and more.
