The event was held at the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park and brought together representatives of government, the armed forces, the maritime industry and the academic community from Poland and Sweden.
One of the key points of the programme was the closing debate entitled ‘Strengthening Cooperation between Regions, Cities and Universities’, in which Gdynia Maritime University was represented by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit. The debate was devoted to opportunities for developing cooperation between Poland and Sweden in areas related to the maritime economy, modern technologies, education, and research and development activity. The panel participants also discussed the role of local governments, universities and industry partners in building international relations and strengthening the potential of the Baltic Sea region in innovation and maritime security.
During the discussion, HM The Rector recalled that a considerable part of the Baltic Sea lies within Sweden’s area of responsibility, and that Gdynia Maritime University has for many years been developing cooperation with universities and partners from Sweden.
HM The Rector also drew attention to the fact that the World Maritime University (WMU) is based in Malmö, Sweden. He emphasised that WMU is a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), which he had the honour of chairing in the years 2023–2025.
Professor Adam Weintrit further noted that Gdynia Maritime University has been consistently developing cooperation not only with academic centres in Sweden, but also with universities and institutional partners from all countries of the Baltic Sea region.
Also taking part in the panel were representatives of the Polish and Swedish sides: Markus Fredriksson, representing the city of Karlskrona; Oktawia Gorzeńska, Deputy Mayor of Gdynia; David Apelberg from the Maritime Technology Center of Sweden in Karlskrona; and Magdalena Pramfelt, President of the Polish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
