Sport, Team Spirit and Fun at GMU Sports Day 2026
On 6, 19 and 21 May 2026, the Gdynia Maritime University academic community took part in its annual sports and recreation event – GMU Sports Day. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering claimed first place overall. Second place went to the Faculty of Management and Quality Science, while the Faculty of Marine Engineering finished third.
In keeping with tradition, this year’s GMU Sports Day began with the Gdynia Maritime University Sudoku Championships, which for many years have been one of the event’s most distinctive and popular attractions.
The second stage of the competition took place at the Stella Maris Recreation Centre in the Kashubian countryside. Students and staff of the University competed in water sports events held on Lake Raduńskie, including kayak races, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) competitions and sailing regattas.
The final day of the event was held at the GMU Sports and Recreation Centre. The official opening ceremony was conducted by HM Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit.
As part of the competition, teams competed in eight sports and team-building events: team skis, crate races, blanket ball, climbing wall competitions, rowing ergometers, the ring pass challenge, penalty kicks and tug of war.
GMU Sports Day 2026 concluded with the presentation of the winners’ cup to the winning team, followed by an outdoor feast for GMU staff, doctoral candidates and students, held on the University campus.
