GMU Centre for the Offshore Centre Hosts Meeting of Expert Group on Sustainable Maritime Economy

On 8–9 June 2026, the Gdynia Maritime University Centre for the Offshore Centre in Gdańsk hosted a meeting of the Expert Group on Sustainable Maritime Economy (EGSME), which operates within the framework of the Council of the Baltic Sea States.

The meeting was attended by representatives of public administration, scientific institutions, and the maritime economy sector from countries across the Baltic Sea region. The event was officially opened by Monika Niemiec-Butryn, Deputy Director and Chair of the EGSME, and Professor Krzysztof Czaplewski, Director of the GMU Maritime Institute. The University was also represented at the event by GMU Chancellor Filip Malata.

During the proceedings, participants discussed key challenges related to the transformation of the maritime sector. One of the main topics was Green Shipping Corridors, which support the decarbonisation of maritime transport. The second part of the meeting was dedicated to the Digital Twin of the Baltic Sea initiative. Speakers included representatives from the Polish Space Agency, the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Management Board of the Port of Gdynia.

The meeting concluded with a study visit to the Baltic Hub container terminal, during which guests had the opportunity to learn about its operations.
