Inaugural Baltic Rectors' Forum Held with Participation of GMU Rector

The inaugural Baltic Rectors' Forum – an international meeting of rectors, representatives from the academic community, public administration, business, and international organisations dedicated to the future of the Baltic Sea region  took place on 29 June 2026. The event, which was held at the University of Gdańsk Library, was attended by the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit.

As part of the Baltic Rectors' Forum, participants from Poland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine discussed topics including the role of the academic community in building regional resilience, the development of a sustainable maritime economy, energy security, the growth of the offshore sector, and the internationalisation of scientific research.

During the event, Professor Adam Weintrit participated in a panel discussion focused on strengthening scientific cooperation to increase the Baltic Sea region's resilience to the effects of climate change, the protection of the marine environment, and the joint development of solutions for sustainable development.

The highlight of the meeting was the signing of the Baltic Rectors' Declaration (the Gdańsk Declaration) – a document establishing a framework for cooperation between universities in the Baltic Sea region for the coming years.

The event was organised by the University of Gdańsk with the support of strategic partners: ORLEN, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Port of Gdańsk.
