12th International Conference on “The Role of Commodity Science in Quality Management within a Knowledge-Based Economy” Held at GMU

From 4 to 6 June, the 11th International Conference on “The Role of Commodity Science in Quality Management within a Knowledge-Based Economy” was held at the GMU Faculty of Management and Quality Science.  The interdisciplinary topics discussed at the conference were:

  • Innovative materials, products, and technologies
  • Quality and product and brand management
  • Consumer attitudes, preferences, and behaviours
  • Safety and developing food quality
  • Sustainable product, sustainable production, sustainable consumption
  • Circular economy
  • Normalisation and integrated management systems in practice
  • Quality management techniques and methods

The topics included at the conference belong to the disciplines of management and quality science and food technology and nutrition.

The conference was held under the honorary patronage of HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit; Mieczsław Struk, Marshall of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Beata Rutkiewicz, Pomeranian Governor, Aleksandra Kosiorek, Mayor of Gdynia, and the Trade Quality Inspection of Agricultural and Food Products. Scientific support was provided by the Polish Association of Commodity Science and the Polish Association Food Technology.  The event sponsors were SeraBIO and Opatowicz & Waker Co. Sp. z o.o. Media patronage was provided by Food Fakty.

All proceedings took place in the GMU T. Meissner auditorium. The programme included five plenary lectures, six plenary sessions (including a young scientists session and a poster session), during which a total of 31 scientific papers were presented. The scientific sessions included competitions for the best paper, with the best three receiving an award. As part of the conference, participants attended a ceremonial evening meal at the Faltom restaurant on the University campus, and also visted the Emigration Museum in Gdynia.

Taking part in the conference were 91 individuals, representatives of the most important scientific centres in Poland, including Krakow University of Economics, Poznań University of Economics, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Radom University, Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk Tech, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Łukasiewicz-Łódzki Technical Institute, Marine Fishing Institue – International Research institute, Krakow University of Technology, Poznań University of Technology, the Social and Medical University in Warsaw, Wroclaw University of Economics, Rzeszów University, University of Agriculture in Krakow, WSB Merito University in Gdańsk, the Higher School of Engineering and Health in Warsaw, Artois University (Francce), and University of Economics – Varna (Bulgaria).

The conference enabled the free exchange of scientific experiences and providing participants with the opportunity to establish and maintain numerous contacts with representatives of other research centres and potential for further collaboration.

All publications included in the conference underwent review and have been published by GMU (in Zeszyty Naukowe UMG) and a multiple-volume monograph. The next cycle of the conference is planned in 2028.
