Crewless Ships? Autonomy at Sea – Still the Future or Already the Present? The Next Open Lecture in the GMU Series Marking the Centenary of Gdynia

Autonomous, meaning self-operating and independent – is such a vessel still a futuristic vision of the future, or is it already a solution used in maritime transport? Do current technologies and legal regulations allow for the adoption of fully autonomous vessels? 

These questions will be answered during the talk by Dr Anna Miller, who will address ship control, voyage planning, human–machine interface (HMI), anti-collision systems and more.

Dr Anna Miller is a research and teaching staff member employed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine and Industrial Automation at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at GMU. Her research focuses on control problems of marine autonomous units, the generation of predefined curvilinear trajectories based on Bézier curves, and the modelling of environmental disturbances – wind and waves – for control systems. She is the author/co-author of numerous scientific publications and monographs. 

We invite everyone interested in the latest development trends in maritime transport and the role autonomous vessels may play in the future of navigation to attend the lecture. 

The lecture series for Gdynia's centenary is a collaborative initiative run jointly by Gdynia Maritime University, the Polish Naval Academy, WSB Merito University Gdynia, and the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski University of Administration and Business, in cooperation with the City of Gdynia. The event is part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the city and aims to popularise knowledge and familiarise residents with the scientific activities of Gdynia's higher education institutions.

The talk will be given in Polish. Admission is free.
